Enhancing skills and careers in the land-based industries

Scotland Director role

Welcome

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in joining Lantra at an exciting time in the organisation’s history.  Lantra provides accredited training, across the UK and in Ireland, to support the development of land-based industries.  These industries are adapting to climate, environmental and societal challenges, and they need a resilient and skilled workforce to deliver a strong land-based economy.  Lantra is ideally placed to help with these activities, because it is committed to working with businesses in the recruitment, retention and training of their staff, whilst also being able to articulate the skills requirements of industry to policy makers.

To support our industries with the workforce and skills they need, our new strategy sets out three key objectives:

  1. To understand the skills needs and related issues within our industry sector
  2. To deliver solutions that address these needs
  3. To influence policy and attract funding for the solutions required by industry

The land-based sector, like others, must address skills gaps and shortages, and create a more diverse and inclusive workforce to effectively contribute to economic growth.  The skills landscape is also changing, in different ways in different parts of the UK.  Lantra, with its UK base at Stoneleigh Park, Scotland office in Perth, and with teams in the devolved nations as well, is attuned to these developments and is working closely with industry, representative bodies and policy makers to ensure that land-based industries are given prominence in the new skills landscape as it takes shape.

At the same time as the organisation is delivering its own skills programmes, it is conducting research on labour market information and the skills needs of industry, promoting careers in the land-based industries and developing new approaches for the network of training providers and instructors that work with Lantra.  We have a particular focus, in all of these activities, on providing high quality training and a positive customer experience, and work with regulatory agencies to ensure that these outcomes are delivered.

Lantra is in a strong financial position, has an excellent and committed staff, recognised recently with the award of an IIP Gold rating, a business approach that balances its charitable objectives with commercial acumen and a supportive and engaged Board of Trustees.

We are looking for a Director of Scotland to lead our activities, and business operations in Scotland, engaging closely with Scottish Government, and delivering a suite of services, building on our strong successes in the region.

If you believe that it does, please contact our search partners for a confidential discussion to find out more about Lantra and its work.  We look forward to hearing from you and to receiving your application.
